Ice and Rock
New Lecture Series from Ines Papert
The end of the world. Far away from civilisation. Inimitable. Forlorn. Exposed. Remote.
Although the hall is warm, the spectator can almost feel the biting cold and the wind nagging at her. In the background a few colorful tents embedded within the endless whiteness of the snow. She gazes up a tremendous rock face, in the hope of spotting a climbable line through rock and ice.
In her new lecture “In Fels und Eis”, Ines Papert (37) takes the spectator on a journey into the realm of her adventures. In this high quality and richly illustrated multimedia show the professional mountaineer tells about successes and failures, deep friendships among team members and companions, deprivations and a zest for life, loneliness and moments of happiness.
With her latest projects as a point of departure the spectator gets an emotional insight into the life of the professional mountaineer, learns much about passion and calling, ethics and tradition and receives an answer to the question, how a single mother deals with the responsibility for son Emanuel (11) vis-à-vis the risks of mountaineering.
October 2010 + September 2011: Mount Kyzyl Asker, Kyrgyzstan
In 2010 Ines Papert, Thomas Senf and Wolfgang Russegger have to put up with a defeat on the south-east face of Mount Kyzyl Asker (5.842 m) in Kyrgyzstan. Although the expedition fails just below the summit, for Ines Papert it is quite clear that she will come back to tackle this mountain once again, rich in experience and with a different strategy. This time, in August 2011, for the first time son Emanuel will accompany his mum on an expedition up until the base camp. During their 2 weeks journey across Kyrgyzstan they will get to know the country and its people, ride high on horseback across the fields and spend the nights with the nomads in their jurts. It goes without saying that Emanuels adventure ends, where Ines Papert and her team start theirs: up on the wall. Will the first ascent of the south-east face of Mount Kyzyl Asker in alpine style be achieved in a second attempt?
Winter 2010 + Winter 2011: Scotland, Ben Nevis, Cairngorms
Breathtaking image illustrate an 8-day road trip across the Highlands of Scotland, where Ines Papert and Charly Fritzer realised hard first ascents. The fact that in Scotland all routes are by tradition climbed without bolts makes this project even more appealing to Ines Papert. The female alpinist has dedicated herself to the traditional free climbing. Against the background of the Scotland trip Ines Papert focusses on a central issue in her life as a mountaineer—ethics of alpinism—and resolves questions about style.
Spring + Summer 2011: Tessin, Untersberg
Compared with other professional mountaineers Ines Papert is time-limited when it comes to choosing her projects. As a mother the female alpinist can only pursue projects, that can be brought in line with taking care of her son Emanuel. Long-term expeditions are out of the question. One more reason, to look for sportive challenges near by. For example the route Super Cirill on Parete di Sonlerto in the Tessin has been high on her list for many years. In spring 2011 she realises a free redpoint ascent of this route. Furthermore Ines Papert presents some unique videos of a project her heart really beats for—the first ascent of a route on her local mountain, the Untersberg.

The direct battle against other competitors has given way to the team spirit of a rope team. Finally Ines Papert shows scenes from her intense day-to-day training routine, the preparation of big projects and talks about ther deep love for her second home, the Berchtesgadener Land.
